The Ballad of Run Tun
(Moes Haven)
In the hills of South Dakota
There's a legend that is told
Of a man as big as a mountain
And never did grow old
His hands hands were hard as iron
And he didn't need a gun
And they called him Run Tun
Folks in town will tell ya
He was once a righteous man
And he never bothered anyone
Steppin' 'cross his land
And if folks up there got stranded
You could be they'd cry
"Why don't you come for me, Run Tun?"
"Why don't you come for me, Run Tun?"
Some men got to talking
And they didn't think it true
That a man could spend his life alone
And not live as they do
So they set out one bright morning
With their whisky and their guns
To look for Run Tun
Run Tun, he was lying
Asleep down by the stream
But he jumped up wide awake
When he heard the scream
He heard a voice yelling
In a low and painful cry
"Why don't you come for me, Run Tun?""Why don't you come for me, Run Tun?"
Run Tun got to running
As fast as he could go
But sadly there was something
That Run Tun didn't know
The boys were down there waiting
Holding up their guns
To capture Run Tun
And in the fight that followed
Run Tun got away
And not a soul has seen him
Up to this very day
They say that he won't answer
The calls from anyone
Who calls for Run Tun
So if you're back up in those hills
You better bring your gun
Cause he won't come to help you
Not you or anyone
But if you listen very closely
You can hear the people cry
"Why don't you come for me, Run Tun?"
"Why don't you come for me, Run Tun?"
